What is a Safe Zone?
A Safe Zone is a room on campus where a Safe Zone sticker or poster is visible to those who enter. This indicates that the person displaying the sticker has gone through a Safe Zone training and wants to communicate to others that they are open to talking about and being supportive of LGBTQ+ identities.
Why is this important?
This helps create safe and affirming learning environments so that all students feel comfortable participating and engaging. It is meant to allow LGBTQ+ individuals to feel safe, welcomed, and supported in the space. This also helps develop a campus community of allies who support LGBTQ+ students, faculty, and staff.
Who can receive Safe Zone training on campus?
Anyone who holds a designated space on campus such as an office or desk. Others who would like to receive the education are welcome to attend as well including groups of students and clubs.
Contact the center by phone or email to get more details and book a training. Periodically announcements of upcoming presentations will be sent to faculty and staff.
